Per Linguam

Per Linguam is a peer-reviewed and accredited academic journal published by the University of Stellenbosch and managed by the Department of Curriculum Studies in the Faculty of Education. The journal welcomes previously unpublished articles on topics of interest to teachers, researchers, academics, language practitioners or anyone involved in applied language studies.

The journal focuses on topics related to language learning and applied linguistics, as well as issues related to multilingualism and educational psychology.

Per Linguam accepts articles that are data-driven, using qualitative and quantitative analytical tools. We will also consider conceptual articles if they are based on the analysis of documents (like curricula, policies, etc).

Literature surveys or purely argumentative articles will not be considered.

Vol 35, No 2 (2019): Special Edition

The acceleration of globalisation in recent years has evidently resulted in migration as people seek job opportunities in countries with stable economies. As a result, children from diverse cultures and languages need to be accommodated in schools where the classes have become more diverse, and thus the language of learning and teaching may be learners’ second or third language. Hence, learners are expected to cope with the language of learning and teaching as well as the sociocultural factors which impact the teaching and learning of the curriculum.

The articles in this special issue reflect the importance of the role language plays in education in different countries and make a call for continued research in the different areas of language teaching and learning in the education fraternity throughout the world.

The guest editor for this issue is Prof Norma Nel.
